A Testimonial for PGGB•IT! PLUS

Thanks to Michael M., USA

I'm using a Gustard R26 DAC with an Aurender N100H., which is too low powered to be practical for real-time use with HQPlayer, so I investigated PGGB•IT! to give me options. I knew someone who used PGGB and they claimed the more extensive/better oversampling was like magic. My understanding is that there are advantages to pre-converting the file rather than real time, because it can do a better job and reduces the work of the player.

My upgrade to PGGB•IT! PLUS ran on my 16GB ram windows laptop but it needed an (inexpensive) memory increase to 64GB ram to perform well. I processed both DSD256 and high rate PCM and used R26's NOS mode for PCM and the "DSD direct" mode. DSD conversions were particularly striking: I noticed greater high-end extension on chamber music instruments such as strings or piano/harpsichord, longer sustain/decay on keyboard instruments, and a lot more room reverberation/longer reverb tails. It elevated my listening pleasure, as if I had bought a much more expensive DAC.

Dan explained to me that the magic of PGGB processing was not due to artificial tuning or voicing. Instead, PGGB's reconstruction includes all the original samples and oversamples using theoretically perfect algorithms at very high mathematical precision. The result is greater audibility of micro details and lengthened reverb tails. These are features I look for in good audio equipment, whether a DAC or an amp. Some DAC designs require tweaking when the math doesn't sound right. Sounds like the exact math of PGGB•IT! does sound very good.
Thanks for your work!
